{"id":30,"date":"2006-06-20T20:20:45","date_gmt":"2006-06-21T04:20:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dragishak.com\/archives\/30"},"modified":"2006-06-20T20:34:01","modified_gmt":"2006-06-21T04:34:01","slug":"robogames-2006","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dragishak.com\/?p=30","title":{"rendered":"Robogames 2006"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three days of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robogames.net\/\">Robogames<\/a> were in San Francisco&#8217;s Fort Mason this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>My interest was in autonomous sumo robot competition.<\/p>\n<p>Robot sumo is played on round black steel plate. Edges are marked white so robots can detect boundaries. The goal is to make a robot that would detect the opponent and push him out of the ring. Robots are autonomous so there is no radio control. There are several categories : 25g nano, 100g micro, 500g mini, 3kg, LEGO ..etc.<\/p>\n<p>In both 500g and 3kg  categories, Singapore&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.np.edu.sg\/\">Ngee Ann Polytechnic<\/a> won all first three places.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" align=\"middle\" title=\"3kg autonomous sumo robots\" alt=\"3kg autonomous sumo robots\" src=\"\/pix\/3kg_auto_sumo.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What I could see, for all their design they used Microchip <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microchip.com\/stellent\/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&#038;nodeId=75\">dsPIC<\/a> microcontrollers and 10-20 Sharp infrarred <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharpsma.com\/Page.aspx\/americas\/en\/b25198ae-eeda-458b-a14f-92e2bd34f1c7\/Distance_and_Air_Sensors\/\">proximity sensors<\/a>  pointing in all directions. They also used, what I didn&#8217;t know was legal, magnets underneath their robots to increase traction.
